The World Government Summit is an annual
event held in Dubai, UAE. It brings together leaders in government for a global
dialogue about governmental process and policies with a focus on the issues of
futurism, technology and innovation, as well as other topics.
The summit is dedicated to shaping the
future of governments worldwide. Each year, the Summit sets the agenda for the
next generation of governments, focusing on how they can harness innovation and
technology to solve universal challenges facing humanity.
More than 4,000 dignitaries from 140
countries and some of the world's movers and shakers are expected to attend the
seventh edition of the summit, held every year under the patronage of His
Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime
Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The event will also be hosting 600
world-famous speakers in more than 200 interactive sessions, which will tackle
topics that are bound to shape the future - from climate change and fiscal
policy to government service innovations and post-conflict social
reconciliation.

Al Gergawi, had earlier said that this year's summit aims to provide all
governments with a blueprint for national success, which would ensure a better
future for the world's seven billion people.
Discussions will revolve around seven key
areas: the future of technology and its impact on future governments; health
and quality of life; environment and climate change; education and the labour
market; trade and international cooperation; societies and politics; and the
future of information and communication between government and society.

Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, opening address to the
forum focused on Sustainable Development Goal SDG. She highlighted that SDG
remains the blueprint for a sustainable future. She pushed for government around
the world to adopt the SDG blueprint for 2030. Stating that sustainable
innovations and policies will help the next generation of governments prepare
for the changing political and economic landscape. Recognising that “our world
has become an increasingly complex place but SDGs remain a beacon of hope and
progress for the planet, helping to promote peace and partnership. She concluded
by saying that “it remains imperative for government leaders to take the tough
decisions required to ensure sustainability is at the heart of government
policy.” And thanked the summit for putting SDG at the fore front of its goal.
Hunger, poverty and food insecurity will
also be a key point of discussion at the summit.

David Beasley Executive
Director of the U.N. World Food Programme, will discuss the challenges facing
the global food sector. His address will also highlight innovative means of
using technology to increase agricultural production and crop yield and food as
a weapon of peace, as a weapon of reconciliation, as a weapon for sustainable
development.
